The Point Lonsdale Bowls Club Hosts Springtime Jazz at the Jazz Club
2/10/2016
The Point Lonsdale Bowls Club recently held their first ever Jazz Night 17th of September. The event, which was open to the public and club members, featured The Jazz Connection Quartet featuring Brian Edwards on bass and vocals, Brian Davis on guitar and vocals, and Pat Miller on tenor saxophone and clarinet. “…They were fantastic playing from 7 to 11 , wrote Steve Tomming.
The Jazz Night is the first event of the newest extension of the Bowls Club, The Jazz Club. The Jazz Club, as stated on the Bowls Club’s Facebook page, “has been established to provide locals with the opportunity to enjoy sensational music and superb food, capping an exciting night out.” The event is part of the Bowls Club’s evolution; the club began in 1930 and has grown to match the needs of its members and community. Along with the creation of The Jazz Club, the Bowls Club also holds the Crackerjack Annual Fair and Carnival and is currently booking the 2017 Bellarine Busking Festival Entry Form. On a regular basis, the club also hosts social bowls for all levels, pennant bowls, as well as coaching for all ages. The club also features a bar, which is open to members and visiting players.
Tomming wrote that advertising for the event included Facebook, newspaper editorials and brochures which were given out to 200 homes.
“The Facebook and newspapers were the most effective I believe,” wrote Tomming. “We had 110 people that was our maximum based on 11 tables of 10. It sold out in three weeks and we could have sold another 40 as it was a sought-after night.”
Tomming wrote that the best part of the event was the patron’s feedback about the event, with most wanting the club to have another jazz night. The club is already using video from the first jazz night to promote the next jazz night, the date for which has yet to be released. Overall, it’s clear the event was a success and will become a welcome addition to the club’s lineup of activities.
